Tender to transform the Halstead service station


A TOWN gas station could be set to see drastic changes when its owners submit plans for a major ‘evolution’.

The developers, Motor Fuel Group Limited, own the service station on the corner of Trinity Street and Kings Road.

The developers have submitted forward-looking plans to Braintree Council with the aim of making major changes to the forecourt.

Plans would see the existing brick building, which houses the gas station store, demolished.

In its place, developers would install two electric vehicle charging stations and parking spaces.

As a replacement for the shop, the plans also propose to renovate the current furniture showroom on the forecourt.

Plans would see a complete refurbishment of the building, adding a new entrance and shops with plans also proposing the addition of a Greggs bakery, according to designs submitted.

In a design and access statement, the developers said: ‘The bid scheme proposes to remove the current forecourt store building to allow the introduction of electric vehicle charging bays and customer parking. .

“The forecourt store will be moved into the existing refurbished exhibition building to improve the retail area and storage facilities, while enhancing the customer offering with a takeaway food section.

“The exterior appearance of the existing building to be repurposed includes walls finished with vertically banded composite insulated profiled metal architectural panels under a flat roof that will be retained.

“The forecourt shop staff currently comprises a manager and two full-time employees with three part-time employees and this staffing will be maintained.

“The proposed food supply section will be managed by five full-time and three part-time employees.

“The site’s hours of operation will remain as currently operated, 24 hours a day. 4

“The forecourt retail and food supply will continue to be operated.
