New CNG filling station launched in Philadelphia

AAA Mid-Atlantic deploys its first compressed natural gas station, powering mid-size roadside assistance vehicles in Philadelphia.

A new compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station was inaugurated in Philadelphia, United States. Located at AAA Mid-Atlantic’s PA Fleet Depot, it is the first such station in AAA Club Alliance territory, according to a press release.

The partners involved in the completion of this station are AAA Mid-Atlantic, Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), Air & Gas Technologies and the Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation (EPACT).

Designed and developed by Air and Gas Technologies, the station serves AAA Mid-Atlantic’s 23 CNG battery trucks via 12 on-time fill hoses. It has a daily capacity of 450 gasoline equivalent gallons (GGE) and allows AAA to refill overnight while the station compresses natural gas on site.

Another first this station brings to the city is AAA Mid-Atlantic’s use of renewable natural gas (RNG), supplied nationally by Renewable Connections.

Other Philadelphia fleets that have invested in GNC include the City of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Airport, and Temple University.
