Legal challenge against council’s refusal to start ‘new concept’ M62 service station

An appeal against the decision to refuse plans for a motorway service station on the M62 will start this week.

Extra MSA’s application for block planning permission for the site north of Junction 11 at Birchwood was rejected by Warrington Borough Council’s Development Management Committee in June.

The program included proposals for a hotel with a capacity of up to 100 beds, a service yard, a service station, an electric charging station, landscaping and parking areas and associated infrastructure.

The inquest is due to begin next Wednesday (March 23) and is expected to last approximately 10 days.

It will take place at the Warrington Borough Council offices in Time Square in the city centre.

Proposals for the site also included an amenity building of up to 4,500m² including food and drink outlets, retail units, communal seating, toilets and showers.
