Fire hose filling station in Enugu as residents run for safety

A fire destroyed a gas station on Friday in the community of Agbani, in the local government area of Nkanu West, Enugu state.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the gas station, Enorsto Petroleum Ltd, is located on the Amaechi-Agbani-Akpugo road.

State Fire Chief Okwudili Ohaa confirmed the incident to NAN in a telephone interview with Enugu.

Mr Ohaa said the incident was attended by officers and men from the state fire department.

“We are there and have taken control of hell to prevent the spread to other facilities and buildings in the area.

“I will inform you more about the development of the incident as we must have totally succeeded in pushing back hell and bringing calm to the region,” he said.

Witness and local resident Larry Onwuta, however, told NAN that the fire started “quite mysteriously” early Friday morning.

“Hell’s huge smoke engulfed much of the Agbani community as residents rushed to safety.

“Most of the residents and traders near the scene of the fire quickly packed their belongings and merchandise due to the threat of the smoke from hell,” Mr. Onwuta said.

The witness said officers and men from the state fire service arrived with three trucks and were currently fighting the blaze.
