ENOC’s gas station of the future opens to the public at Expo City Dubai

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: ENOC Group, a leading global integrated oil and gas player operating across the energy industry value chain, today announced that its service station in future is now open to the public at Expo City Dubai as part of Expo’s long-lasting sustainable legacy. This is in line with the Group’s plans to continue contributing to the country’s economic development and energy security in its next phase of growth.

Expo City Dubai is now ready to welcome 145,000 residents and workers, becoming the first 15-minute city in the United Arab Emirates (a traffic-free and bicycle-friendly suburb of the growing metropolis of Dubai) with amenities close to the 85 start-ups and small businesses occupying the commercial space later this year.

His Excellency Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of ENOC Group, said: “We are pleased to announce the opening to the public of the fuel station of the future with an innovative design, which is part of the sustainable sustainable heritage of the Expo. Since its inauguration, the service station has served the logistical needs of the entire Expo 2020 Dubai fleet before and throughout the event. As Expo City Dubai hosts a number of residents and businesses, we aim to meet the fuel and convenience needs of the public in the area. In addition, the service station, a true testament to our commitment to sustainable development, is aligned with the city’s environmental objectives.

Inspired by the rich heritage of the United Arab Emirates in the form of its national tree, the Ghaf, over 43,000 m² of carbon fiber was used to construct the canopy in addition to 37 tonnes of carbon fiber which was used to build the 133 multi-layered canopy frames that house transparent, innovative sheet-like ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) cushion canopies and are powered by more than 3,800 LED light modules.

The 5,841.87 m² service station of the future harnesses renewable energy through 283 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels installed to generate 143 MWh of solar energy, in addition to a 25 m, which will generate 12.7 MWh of wind energy per year, in the 4.38 square km site of the World Expo.

Since its unveiling, the gas station of the future has been recognized by many global and local bodies for its innovative design and sustainability features. In addition to having received LEED Platinum certification – a building certification system recognized internationally by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for its strong focus on renewable energy, water efficiency, energy savings and the reduction of CO2 emissions – the service station has also won numerous awards, including the Architecture MasterPrize 2021, the corporate social responsibility prize awarded by the idea of the year, the sustainable project of the year and the design innovation awards from the Design Middle East Awards. Most recently, the Gas Station of the Future won the Arab Energy Efficiency Day competition for “Best Energy Management Systems in Industrial Plants”, held in Cairo, Egypt.
