Blairsville man charged with robbing gas station and assaulting clerk

A Blairsville man was charged by Indiana State Police with robbing a gas station in Armagh early Friday and assaulting the clerk.

Nicholas R. Empfield, 27, was arrested and sentenced to Indiana County Jail after failing to post $150,000 bond, court records show.

Troopers were called to the One-Stop gas station at 90 Indiana St., just off Route 22, at 6:18 a.m. for a report of theft.

Private Clifford Greenfield said soldiers were told that Empfield had entered the store, demanded money and assaulted the saleswoman.

Greenfield said the soldiers were told that Empfield forcibly pushed the employee to the ground, causing her to bang her head against a counter as she fell.

Empfield fled the store with $1,892, police say.

The soldiers said the clerk knew Empfield and was able to identify him. He was arrested at a house in nearby West Wheatfield Township.

The clerk was treated at the scene by paramedics before seeking further medical treatment.

Empfield is charged with aggravated assault, harassment, receiving possession, robbery, common assault and theft.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 19.
