A gas station owner has revealed what it takes to be named the best servo in the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Victorian man Brett Anderson won the coveted industry title for his fuel and convenience station in Wangaratta, Victoria last month.

Its APCO 24/7 coffee won the Association for Convenience & Fuel Retailing’s “Retailer of the Year” award, above thousands of other gas stations in the Asia-Pacific region.

During an appearance on the Today Show on Saturday, Mr Anderson gave an honest answer to the question of how his establishment won the title.

‘To tell you the truth, I’m not really sure. We have great food, great service and a great town of Wangaratta.

Servo’s owner said a focus on fresh food was one of the reasons for the gong, telling hosts that soggy potato scallops and sausage rolls weren’t on the menu at the Wangaratta stop.

Food was prepared by chefs working around the clock every day and served to hungry travelers at all hours.

“We also do a lot of roasts and that kind of stuff at night…for the truckers,” Mr. Anderson said.

“Gas stations are changing right now and becoming more and more about healthy food, good food, good coffee, and just making sure people are happy every day. They are all aware of what they eat these days.

The Servo owner went on to reveal that he has remained committed to his community throughout the past two years of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Instead of closing his store, he expanded his integrated convenience store to feed the city.

So far, Mr. Anderson has added a grocery store and cafe to his establishment.
